HORSES TRAINING AT BOWIE One Hundred and SixtyEight Now Stabled on Grounds Meeting Slated to Open November 16 Five FiveStakes Stakes One of 10000 Closing ClosingOctober October 24 BOWIE Md Oct 21 Despite the fact that the Southern Maryland Agricultural As ¬ sociations meeting doesnt open its thirteen day meeting until November 16 there are already 168 horses in training at this course courseGeneral General manager Joseph B Boyle who motored down from Baltimore and superin ¬ tendent Dick Pending while inspecting the plant today checked up on the owners with representatives on the grounds They found fortyseven different owners awaiting the final lap of Marylands 1938 season seasonOwners Owners with horses on the grounds are A S Randolph three Motor City Stable eight J Seay three Dan Kearney six F J Valli three S Flammia five M J Reeves two A Covington two H J Chapman six E Fred eight A S Bowman six C Wil helm two A H Utterback four J G Davis eight J T Roberts three Mrs Casey two W Hildebrant two George Rlola one Pete Clausen two S Griffin two Mrs A M Reis two H F White two N A Cowell three C Howard five A Finley one J Clare two J Reeves two twoC C Trentelli eight Cap Cross one E A Stone two O B Wearley six H H Wilson two W Kirkley two W Bitz nine N S Fillman two J C Metz three J Hixon three F Kirby three John Ford three A J Taylor two Paul C Corbett three W J McFadden one E Matthews three and Dick Pending four fourBOOM BOOM FOR 1200 HORSES HORSESThere There is room for close to 1200 horses here However no horseman should ship in without first applying for stalls Applications can be sent to superintendent Dick Pending here or to general manager Joseph B Boyle 317 Baltimore Life Building Baltimore Md General MdGeneral manager Boyle calls horsemens attention to the closing of the five Bowie stakes on October 24 The stakes are 10000 BryanOHara Memorial mile and threesix ¬ teenths for threeyearolds and upward 5000 Endurance Handicap mile and sev ¬ enty yards exclusively for twoyearolds the 5000 Thomas Kirby Lynch Memorial mile and onesixteenth for all ages the 2500 W P Burch Memorial six furlongs for all ages and the 2500 Prince George Autumn Handicap mile and onesixteenth for all ages agesBoyle Boyle reports an unuauslly large number of clubhouse and private box reservations He is having the entire plant dressed up for next months racing racingDAILY DAILY RACE SPECIALS SPECIALSDaily Daily race specials will be run by the Pennsylvania Railroad Company from New York Philadelphia Wilmington Chester Havre de Grace and Baltimore The electri ¬ fied specials will go directly into the track and stop at the foot of the huge concrete and steel grandstand A special platform which is covered will protect turfites during inclement weatherThe weather The majority of the countrys topnotch riders now plying their trade in this state have informed Jesse Bennett custodian of the jockeys room that they would be here to mountsThe accept mounts The leading winning rider at the meeting will be presented a gold watch by the Mary ¬ land Turf Writers Association This organ ¬ ization will present gold watches to the leading winning rider at all of Marylands major tracks in the future The organization is holding its first annual frolic on Novem ¬ ber 10 at the Lord Baltimore Hotel in Balti ¬ more when owners trainers and riders will mingle with Mr and Mrs Racing Fan This frolic which will be an annual affair is to help boost racing which annually nets this state close to 1000000
