TODAYS FOOTBALL WINNERS How Many Major Teams Will Remain Unbeaten After the Carnage Experts and Students of the Sport Look for forSome Some Interesting and HardFought HardFoughtBattles Battles This Saturday How many of the nineteen unbeaten and untied major football teams of the country will survive todays carnage All but Min ¬ nesota will play the Golden Gophers resting until a week from today when they tackle Northwestern which pulled a surprise last year and beat the big men of the north woods woodsOne One of the best games and the only one between the unbeaten and untied nineteen will be between Notre Dame and Carnegie Tech at South Bend It is certain that the Irish will turn loose every one of their fleet ball carriers to make amends for the Scots unexpected victory of last year Both teams are rated much improved over the elevens representing the two schools last season and a capacity crowd is expected for the game However gameHowever the good games are not con ¬ fined to these unbeaten teams For instance the big Northwestern eleven which tied with Ohio State last weekend will be the homecoming opponent of Illinois at Cham ¬ paign and while the Evanston team is se ¬ lected to win everybody anticipates a close score Chicago goes to Columbus where they are certain to be trampled upon at least that is the general prediction Wis ¬ consin and Purdue should furnish a great battle and it is almost a tossup as to the winner though Wisconsin is given the edge by most experts Indiana is looked upon as too formidable for Kansas State although the score may be close Continued on twentyseventh pagej TODAYS FOOTBALL WINNERS Continued from first page In the East the surprising Michigan team which just missed a tie with Minnesota last Saturday will meet Yale and experts pre ¬ dict Michigan by a good margin The Pitts ¬ burgh Panthers rated the countrys No 1 team encounters Southern Methodist and the powerful aggregation from the Smoky City is counted on to crush the southern boys in the same manner they have all the other teams unfortunate enough to be on their schedule The big green team of Dart ¬ mouth is another expected to keep its slate clean and make it twenty straight victories with Harvard todays victim Other eastern games with the probable winner mentioned first are PrincetonNavy Michigan State Syracuse Holy CrossColgate CornellPenn State PennsylvaniaColumbia PennsylvaniaColumbiaFordham Fordham tackles and expects to beat Ore ¬ gon Mississippi to take the measure of Cen ¬ tenary Vanderbilt to prevail over L S U Santa Clara to triumph over Arkansas while Nebraska may prove a tartar for un ¬ beaten Oklahoma Southern California and Stanford may be counted upon to furnish one of the greatest games anywhere with Southern California the probable winner Unbeaten California should find the Wash ¬ ington Bears to their liking though the score may not be large Rice and Tulane are certain to put up a great battle with the first mentioned the likely victor victorThese These and thousands of other games in various parts of the country will keep foot ¬ ball fans quite busy this afternoon and the air will be full of footballs both literally and otherwise
