UPSETS AT LAUREL NUMEROUS Honey Cloud Neglected in Wagering but Furnishes Surprise Light Surface of Mud to Liking of Abel AbelBacer Bacer Early Morning Bain Changes Changesthe the Footing to Sloppy LAUREL Md Oct 24 On a program that brought many upsets Honey Cloud rac ¬ ing for Mrs A J Abel and making his third start of the year was winner of The Ad ¬ miral an allowance race at six furlongs that served as the fifth and best offering on the card that began the final week of racing at Laurel Park today todayOpposed Opposed by five other seasoned sprinters and neglected in the speculation after suffer ¬ ing defeat in a class C handicap here in ills last start the fouryearold son of High wloud found a racing strip surfaced with light mud to his liking and made every part of the threequarters journey a winning one under the handling of jockey Albert Schmidt to triumph in a drive He reached the close of the contest a half length in advance of Bomar Stables Benjam while A C Comp tons Clingendaal came swiftly approaching the finish to be a neck farther back and third by a length and onehalf over Fair Knlghtess which raced for C S Howard and led home Mower and a stablemate Mel ¬ ody Boots BootsWithdrawals Withdrawals from the overnight field of fourteen left only the starters named to vie for honors in the principal event and Honey Cloud was good enough to dominate from the start after a delay of five minutes took place at the gate Honey Cloud was coming back over a longer race and had much speed to carry his opponents along a good pace in the early stages of the journey He went along in advance of Benjam in the opening furlong then after Fair Knightess moved up on the turn to offer a threatening bid the Mrs A J Abel gelding showed his honesty by withstanding Benjam which came again during the closing drive At the end Clingen ¬ daal was going the strongest of the party while Mower and Melody Boots cut little figure in the running runningRain Rain visited Laurel Park early in the day and transferred the racing strip into a sea of mud which resulted in several sharp up ¬ sets The crowd attending the opening of the final week of racing was a good one considering that a very light drizzle fell in ¬ termittently during the afternoon
