MIAMI, Fla., Dec. 5. Seventy-eight thoroughbreds, to include the four leading money-winners of America for 1938, have been nominated for the fourth running of the Wide-ner, 0,000 added stake to be renewed at Hialeah Park, Saturday, March 4. The complete list of entries was released today by racing secretary Charles J. McLennan. The Widener may provide a second meeting between Seabiscuit and War Admiral, for it is known that Samuel D. Riddle would like nothing better than another chance to even matters up with the San Francisco sportsman, Charles Howard. By virtue of his victory over War Admiral in the Pinilico Special, Seabiscuit became No. 1 thoroughbred of the American turf. This seasons Widener list contains the name of practically every outstanding horse that raced during the year to include Maxwell Howards Stagehand, winner of the Santa Anita Handicap, and the ranking purse earner of 1938 with 89,710; Seabiscuit, rating next with 30,395; Herbert M. Woolfs Lawrin, the Kentucky Derby winner, with 23,-215, and War Admiral, hero of the last Widener Challenge Cup, with 0,840 earned. NOTABLE NOMINATIONS. In addition to these nominees for the forthcoming Widener are such turf notables a3 E. E. Fogelsons Dauber, winner of the Pim-lico Preakness; Mrs. W. Plunket Stewarts Pasteurized, victor in the rich Belmont Stakes; Binglin Stock Farms Ligaroti, beaten a nose by Seabiscuit in the 5,000 Del Mar Special out California way last August; Calumet Farms Bull Lea, winner of five important stakes this year to include a triumph over Stagehand at Narragansett. Edward Friendlys Jacola, considered champion three-year-old filly of the country and winner of the Maryland Handicap, Washington Handicap and Laurel Stakes at Laurel, in which she defeated Seabiscuit by two and a half lengths; Maxwell Howards The Chief, winner of the historic Brooklyn Handicap and Dwyer Stakes at Aqueduct and the Derby Trial Stakes at Churchill Downs, in which he trounced both Lawrin, the destined Kentucky Derby winner, and his stablemate, Stagehand. OTHER GOOD ONES. Townsend B. Martins Cravat, Jerome Handicap winner at Belmont Park; Louis B. Mayers Magic Hour, which triumphed in Belmonts Lawrence Realization, and Ossa-baw, champion steeplechaser of the year, which is being converted into a flat racer; Coppage and Ramseys Mucho Gusto, winner of the Kentucky Handicap at Churchill Downs and Governors Handicap at Detroit; Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilts Heelfly, which ran Seabiscuit to a dead heat in the Laurel Stakes last year; B. F. Whitakers Mythical King, winner of the Shevlin Stakes at Aqueduct, and the Saratoga Stables Volitant, which won the Saratoga Sales Stakes and the Spalding Lowe Jenkins Handicap at Laurel and was the only colt this year to extend the unbeaten two-year-old champion, El Chico, in the Junior Champion at Aqueduct.
