j j j TEN THOUSAND AT CALIENTE Big Sunday Crowd Watches Bosca Account for Co-Feature. Sheerness Fails to Run to Expectations Mohac Makes It Two Victories In a Row. AGUA CALIENTE, Mexico, Dec. 5. Ideal weather attended the sport at Agua Cali-ente Sunday as the Baja California Jockey Club presented a rather attractive program of nine races. More than 10,000 ardent lovers of the thoroughbred sport crossed the border to participate in the days entertainment and there was an abundance of interest manifest in the selectors contest which was endowed with a prize of ,000. This was for the person or persons picking the most winners from among the seven designated races which commenced with the second race and ended with the seventh event. The program was headlined by a twin feature of which, the San Joaquin Purse, eighth on the program and the Midwick Handicap for two-year-olds was given fourth position on the card. Of the original seven eligible for the Midwick, there were but six to accept the issue and L. E. Redmons Sheerness rated a strong choice and ridden by the veteran Charlie Bianco, could do no better than second. The winner here was Frank E. Childs Bosca, which accounted for her second triumph of the current meeting. The victress, capably ridden by the veteran Vere Thompson, was in trouble right after the start and was forced to ease up but she soon raced to contention and the skill of Thompson bringing her up on the inside, played an important part in the ultimate result for he saved much ground and after overhauling Sheerness and Glazenwood, which were fighting it out, Bosca drew out to win by one length. Sheerness closed her engagement, a similar distance before Glazenwood to gain the place award. Valoria gave a disappointing performance which was attributed to the loss of a stirrup by jockey N. L. Pierson. DISTINGUISHED VISITORS. Among the distinguished visitors were many stars from the motion picture world; which included Mickey Rooney, Norman Taurog, Oliver Hardy, Bill Boyd, Joan Davis, Rudolph Sanchez, the gozernor of Lower California and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Mitchell. The winner turned back eight others of which E. E. Pressnells Jack Be Nimble was second and L. E. Redmons Viewpoint finished third. The winner, somewhat overlooked in the betting paid the liberal dividend of 2.80 for each two-dollar ticket. Jack Be Nimble ruled a strong choice, but he failed to meet the demands during the early racing and while he closed with a good brand of speed he could not menace the winner but was easily best of the others. Among the contestants in this was that old California favorite Jim Dandy, but it was obvious that the one-time stake winner and conqueror of Gallant Fox was in need of the race for he came to the track in a fleshy condition. The only life the old fellow displayed was at the post when he contributed to the delay. The winner hustled to contention early, moved to the front without need of pressure and once in the van just sped along with good speed and crossed the line one and a half lengths in front of Jack Be Nimble, with Viewpoint a length and a half away to finish half a length in front of Beeson.
