A. G. VANDERBILT PRESIDENT Elected Head of Maryland Jockey Club to Succeed C. E. McLane Retired Complete List of Officials. BALTIMORE, Md., Dec. 5. Alfred Gwynn Vanderbilt was today elected president of the Maryland Jockey Club, to succeed Charles E. McLane, who resigned due to ill health. The action was taken today at the annual meeting of the directors of the Maryland Jockey Club held at the Pimlico race course. In taking over the position occupied by Mister McLane, Vanderbilt, whose cerise and white silks are known from coast to coast, becomes the youngest person ever to occupy the position of president in Americas oldest thoroughbred racing organization. The retirement of Mr. McLane comes after an association of over forty years with the Pimlico course and the Maryland Jockey Club. The selection of Mr. Vanderbilt to succeed to the office of president was unanimous and was a recognition Of the energy and initiative he has displayed in the affairs of the Maryland Jockey Club since he was elected to its board of directors three years ago. Two new members where elected to the board of directors for 1939 to fill the vacancies caused by the resignation of Mr. McLane and the death of Adm. Cary T. Grayson last winter and are: John K. Shaw, Jr., of Baltimore County and Vaughn Flan-nery of Darlington, Md., and New York City. Both are well known in thoroughbred racing circles. The latter maintains a breeding farm in Hartford County. Other officers elected were: W. W. Lanahan, Vice-president; Henry A. Parr, HI., treasurer; Matt Daiger, secretary and Howard F. Thompson, assistant treasurer. Members re-elected to the board of directors in addition to the officers were Frank J. Bryan, D. Sterrett Git-tings, Chester F. Hockley, Stuart S. Janney, J. W, Y- Martin, Ral Parr, Erie D. Walden Walter Wickes and David F. Woods.
