Skippy McGee Earns Nose Decision Over Drawout In Detroit Sprint Closes Strongly to Gain Lead and Then Turns Back Bid of RunnerUp RunnerUpDETROIT DETROIT Mich June 3 Skippy McGee strong favorite sporting the silks of T Zit nik scored a driving nose verdict in the first race at the Detroit Fair Grounds today Well ridden by George King Skippy McGee came to the close of the six fulongs under punishment to down F Thompsons Draw out The latter held a length margin over River Divide Farms Ocean Tide which downed the nine other platers which met for third thirdStarter Starter Bryan Steele sent the capacity field off to a good start after a short delay at the post and in the run down the back stretch Ocean Tide took command Big Sam was in closest pursuit and held on rather determinedly until reaching the half mile post Drawout was a well placed third and the ultimate winner was fourth but always within striking distance of the leaders leadersOcean Ocean Tide continued to show the way as the field swung into the stretch and held a length advantage when straightened for the final drive Skippy McGee then began his victorious bid and King went to the whip Responding well the Zitnik gelding disposed of Drawout and then set sail for Ocean Tide After a sharp stretch duel the latter gave way beaten and Skippy McGee then had to be roused to withstand another belated chal ¬ lenge from Drawout DrawoutRunning Running time over the fast racing strip was 113 and the winner was held at odds of 7 to 10 in the straight wagering wageringALLCLAIMING ALLCLAIMING PROGRAM PROGRAMHorses Horses recruited from the claiming ranks made up the program for the eight races presented at the local plant and although the card was devoid of a feature interesting sport was the order Several of the events were productive of close finishes and this added much to the enjoyment of the crowd of 6500 in attendance Betting was brisk and the high daily average attained thus far at the current meeting was increased increasedHeavy Heavy cloud banks hung over the course and a mild breeze held the temperature to pleasing levels The ever present threat of rain failed to detract from interest in the sport and the racing strip was fast for the earlier offerings J Oliver Brown track superintendent expressed the hope that no rain would fall before the deciding of the Sabula Handicap sixfurlong headliner for the Wednesday program programTransview Transview from the B M Mitchell stable earned a driving halflength decision in the second race of six furlongs when he came to the wire a half length before Red Moss Starwind accounted for third honors a head farther back and was a like distance before the tiring Pegging Pete which wound up fourth The favored Orcus lacked early speed and went wide entering the stretch but closed well to be fifth George Wallace took Transview to the front soon after the start and the combination set the pace un ¬ der pressure from Pegging Pete until the final furlong where the latter gave way Continuing stoutly the Mitchell gelding had enough left to withstand the closing bid of Red Moss Transview paid 1620 straight I and completed the Daily Double worth 4260
