HOLLYWOOD PARK INNOCENT BYSTANDER IN INVESTIGATION INVESTIGATIONDirectors Directors Willing to Cooperate With Racing Board and Horsemen HorsemenINGLEWOOD INGLEWOOD Calif June 17 Although in nowise involved in the recent disturb ¬ ances growing out of the alleged stimula ¬ tion of a number of horses at Hollywood Park during the current meeting the Holly ¬ wood Turf Club today offered to pay the costs of any further investigation in this unfortunate incident The track today is ¬ sued the following statement statementLast Last night at a specially called meeting the board of directors of Hollywood Turf Club discussed the entire situation respect ¬ ing the alleged presence of caffeine in horses currently stabled at Hollywood Park As the California Horse Racing Board has repeatedly pointed out Hollywood Turf Club in this situation is an injured and innocent bystander Regardless of the un ¬ fortunate situation in which our association innocently finds itself its first and foremost concern is for the general public which supports racing and for the horsemen who by their presence make possible the holding of racing meetings We are conscious of the fact that many distinguished gentlemen of the turf have honored us by their presence at this our most successful meeting to date In a sense the horsemen are our guests It is our de ¬ sire to treat them accordingly We are deep ¬ ly concerned with the fact that it is claimed that analyses made under the jurisdiction of the racing board have indicated that certain horses at Hollywood Park have shown the presence of caffeine Our board of directors has no present information whether caffeine is or is not a stimulant While we deeply regret the embarrassment to the horse own ers we conceive it to be the duty of the horse race board to pursue his investiga ¬ tion to its logical conclusion For the bene ¬ fit of the public and the horsemen and in the interest of keeping racing on the high esjt possible plane and Hollywood Turf Club will not be satisfied with anything less this association will cooperate with the horsemen and with the California Horse Racing Board to the fullest possible extent extentOn On Saturday morning last the chairman of the Horse Racing Board stated that the board was not financially equipped to fully pursue this inquiry In order that this in ¬ vestigation may not be hampered or delayed and for the purpose of placing responsibility if any where it may rightfully belong Holly ¬ wood Turf Club will pay the costs of such further investigation as the racing board or the horsemen or both may determine to make to the end that the person or persons if any responsible for this regrettable dis turbance may be brought to justice
