Maryland Notes PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., April 14. The Calumet Farm is having trouble ; keeping a rider in action at this meeting. . Conn McCreary, contract rider for the establishment, narrowly escaped serious injury • when he went down with Sea Letter f in the first race Thursday and Freddie Smith, who handles the overflow mounts, turned up the following day with a bad cold and was forced to cancel his saddle engagements. Jockey F. Zehr, who put up one of the best rides of the meeting to get Bloodhound home in the finale on Thursday, . was thrown from his mount while pulling up around the clubhouse turn. However, he s was uninjured and resumed riding today. Jockey J. DeLucia has affiliated with x trainer Willy Zimmerman, who has here the horses Chiff Chaff, Greta J. and Red j Level. Trainer Ben A. Jones, of the Calumet t Farm horses, reports that he has received word to the effect that his son, Lt. j.g. Jimmy Jones, U. S. C. G., has been transferred . from the Florida sector to Savannah, Ga, E. J. Ferris is handling riding engagements . for jockey J. R. Lay ton. Conn McCreary, contract rider for Warren . Wrights Calumet Farm, reveals that t he has become an adherent of Izaac Walton. Prior to coming here, McCreary went on a fishing trip in waters around the ; Florida Keys and, on one occasion, landed I a tarpon. Incidentally, the tarpon weighed more than McCreary, tipping the scales at t 130 pounds. Raymond Archer added John Hunni-cutt, . Rough Sugar and Win With Her. Indian Brave, Patience, Talasea and Clog. G. Ray Bryson reports that his former trainer, Joe Serio, Jr., is now stationed at the U. S. Remount Depot at Ft. Sill, Okla. The horses R. "Dick" Pending has here are Tagel, Ebony Ace, Military Man, Ros-1 coe K., Neutrality, Lissom and On Isaac. Steeplechase secretary Eddie Brennan was unable to fill Saturdays Forest Lore Steeplechase Handicap and the event was called off in favor of a claiming event.
