Old Whitey and Page II. Score at Narragansett Divided Worcester Purse Results In Close Finishes in Both Halves PAWTUCKET, R. I., April 14. — Old Whitey, an eight-year-old gelded son of! Given a hustling ride by Milton Briggs, Who was recently honorably discharged from the armed forces, Old Whitey reached the wire a head before Irving J. Whites ! little Hoops, who was a like margin on Walter Gullatts Yes or No. In the tight finish, Boblyn Stables favored Weatherite j I I was fourth in the field of eight starters, a neck farther back. Old Wihtey, who won nine of 29 starts during his 1943 campaign, shouldered 113 I J pounds today and stepped the six-furlong i j distance over the fast track in 1 : 12 * 3. 1 j Overlooked almost entirely in the specula- tion, the Beattie representative was good for 7 in the "tote." Page II. carried W. L. Guinassos colors to a length decision in the second division of the Worcester Purse. Smartly handled by Joseph Martin, Page II. was a front-1 j running victor. Mayfair Stables Bottle Imp ran second, a" neck in advance of Max Mar-1 morsteins Baroque, who was the favorite for the dash.
