To Renew Six Lincoln Fields Stakes at Hawthorne Oval It was announced at the offices of Col. Matt J. Winn, executive director of the Lincoln Fields Jockey Club, that six stakes will be renewed during the 29-day season at the Lincoln Fields-at-Hawthorne meeting this year. Lincoln Fields will open the Chicago major racing season at the Stickney course Tuesday, May 16, with the Crete Handicap, Joliet Stakes, Francis S. Peabody Memorial Handicap, Steger Handicap, LaSalle Handicap and Lincoln Handicap listed for renewals. Each will be endowed with ,000, with the Crete, a six-furlong dash featuring the first Saturdays program on May 20. The Joliet Stakes, for two-year-olds, will be presented the following Saturday and the Francis S. Peabody will feature the Memorial Day presentation on Tuesday, May 30. It will be followed by the Steger on Saturday and the LaSalle and the Lincoln Handicaps will grace the concluding week-end offering. Entries will close Monday, May 1, with nominations being accepted at the local offices at 31 East Congress Street and at Churchill Downs, Louisville, Ky.
