Kentucky News and Notes KEENELAND at Churchill Downs, Louisville, Ky., April 14. Fred B. Koontz of Tulsa, Okla., inspected his horses at John S. Wiggins Military Stock Farm near Paris. Khaygram and Grenouille made up the modest shipment trainer J. A. Bordeaux brought in today from Hot Springs and stabled at Douglas Park. Four head belonging to Brosnan and Haley arrived from Miami and were quartered at Churchill Downs. J. J. Haley will condition the string. Jockey Don Scurlock arrived and stated he would handle the riding chores for the Brown Hotel Stable. Jockey Billie Thompson checked in from Miami and reported to trainer Jack Long, who has the Darby Dan Farm horses here. H. H. Waddy returned from Nashville, Tenn., where he purchased Pour Tens and Pretty Bitter from Grainger Williams. The pair will be shipped here next week and added to the contingent Waddy has quartered at Douglas Park. Richard Fischer, trainer for the Dearborn Stable, reports the race horse, Nelson Dunstan, has been returned to training again and likely will be seen in colors at the spring meeting. The stake performing three-year-old had the firing iron applied to his ankles in January. Lydell T. Ruff, trainer of the western division of Col. C. V. Whitneys stable, received the three-year-old Liaison and the two-year-olds, Monsoon, Fireworks and Crawfish from the Whitney farm. Due to shortage of help, Tom Baldwin is anxious to dispose of several horses he has quartered here and at Lexington. Hugh Youngs Safe and Sure, a sister to the good performer, Safe and Sound, foaled a bay colt by Playdale. She will be bred to Cravat. Clonnie, the property of Dr. C. Lang, foaled a bay colt by Balladier and she, too, will go to the court of Cravat. Stanley Freeman, whose contract was purchased by Jack Hanover last fall, will do the bulk of the riding for the Hyman Friedberg stable. Freeman rode his first winner on Petty Officer at River Downs last fall. Jockey N. L. Pierson came In from Pimlico and accepted mounts in several races on tomorrows inaugural program. Acara and Ompalo, Kings Plate candidates in the Harry C. Hatch stable here, are doing nicely, according to trainer Cecil Howard. These and other of the Hatch thoroughbreds will be transferred to Woodbine Park shortly before the close of racing here. H. C. Genter, owner of Swiv and five two-year-olds, among the many horses Kirby Ramsey is training at Churchill Downs, is expected from his home in Minneapolis in ten days. T. C. Melrose arrived from Cleveland and will remain for the duration of the local spring season. He has 19 here in charge of Howard Hoffman and four others racing at Bay Meadows. Neville Dunn, Lexington publisher and owner of the Derby eligible and Lansing Handicap winner, Fire Power, is here for the opening of the Keeneland season. Mr. and Mrs. Edward S. Moore, owners of the Circle M Stable and Circle M Farm, are returning to Kentucky from Florida late this month and will be here for the Churchill Downs meeting. Their horses, trained by R. E. Wingfield, arrived here last Sunday. Among recent foals at Hyman Fried-bergs farm were a colt by Bolo and Mont-sin and a colt from Bay Servant by the same stallion. Montsin was bred to Johnstown, while Bay Servant was mated with Bull Lea. Burgoo Mary is due to foal to Eternal Bull, and the young mare Cousin Ethel has been bred to Stimulus. Having returned to their Chicago home from Florida, Mr. and Mrs. John Marsch, owners of one of the more formidable stables here, are expected to tarrive here by their trainer, Burley Parke.
