_— 4 Jimmie Convincing Winner at Pimlico Carruthers Colt Vindicates Strong Backing in Towson Purse, Leading Throughout BALTIMORE, Md., April 14.— Mrs. Roy Y Carruthers Jimmie enhanced his chances s for supplementary nomination to the e Preakness Stakes, the deadline for which is midnight tomorrow, and at a cost of ,500, • by dusting off the other three-year-olds s in the featured sixth race named the Tow-son at Pimlico this afternoon. Incidentally, the colt earned ,400 by this success.. He e covered the six furlongs in 1:1413 over a fast track, then worked out seven furlongs in 1:2735 and was eased up a mile in 1:43, ; handily. Second place in the grade "C" allowance e event went to M. Wexlers Plucky Raider, • who came from last place to be three lengths behind the leader at the finish and, in turn, a half-length before O. L. Bonifays s Mouse Hole. My Malcha and Bow Wave, ! completing the field in the named order. Springlike weather was no doubt partly " responsible for the good turnout, some 10.000 spectators witnessing this continuation of the combined meeting of Marylands s four major racing associations. Carson Kirk * was the riding star during the early part of * the afternoon, piloting a double in Salubria * Stables Belfonda, victorious in the second race, and Lt. Walter P. Chryslers Feather-Bob in the fifth. Large Daily Double Return A Daily Double payoff of 02.30 for 2 resulted from triumphant efforts on the part of the rather scantily played Shako in 1 the opener and Belfonda, who took the second. Shako came from well back to nip 3 Sea Bees through the stretch and then held i off Peace Parley by a neck in rounding out t the four and one-half furlongs in :5625. Sea Bees flattened out after being collared, 1 but managed to be third. In the second 3 Belfonda was saved during the early running and then steered to the outside for the e drive, getting up in time to best Valdina a Fleet, while Colonel John finished third. I The winner negotiated the four and one-half _ furlongs in :5625 and rewarded at t 1.20 for . In the main offering jockey N. L. Pierson D got Jimmie away before his rivals. However, . the colts advantage was meager for ,r the first quarter of a mile. Bow Wave, racing on the outside, attempted to go along g irith the Carruthers representative, but, t although the attempt was noteworthy, it H fell short of overhauling the winner. Consequently, _ the threat put away. Jimmie e went upon his way unmolested He maintained a lead of some two to three lengths s turning for home and, although Plucky y Raider charged hard through the stretch, i. the bid of the son of Foray II.. was without t re m aid.
