Await Crenshaw Division At Sportsmans Course Horse Colony ot Cicero Oval I Now Numbers Over 500 Head I Wtih over 500 horses in quarters at Sportsman s Park and nearby Hawthorne, activity has been stepped up considerably ! for the inaugural of the Illinois racing sea- • J son at the National Jockey Club course on j I April 29. Horses are testing the half-mile , strip daily and, while the moves are merely in the nature of legging -up exercise and open gallops preparatory for longer moves ■ at a later date, their presence indicates that there will be no dearth of fit horses far the entire 14-day meeting. Racing secretary Pat Galliger reports that W. W. Crenshaw, the California sportsman, whose horses did so well during the Florida season, has 20 stalls reserved at Sportsmans and that by now the string, ; which is conditioned by Jimmy Wallace, should be en route here. , Among the arrivals from Hot Springs yesterday were the stables of A. E. Metz, j Silver Star Stock Farm and Douglas Ness, j The handicap performer, Quizzle, is the j mainstay of the Metz stable, which also j houses five other head, while Chipamink, j ; who performed creditably during the Oak- ! lawn Park meeting, tops the eight that N. j A. McMaster. who trains the Silver Star string, brought in. Ness, who was the leading trainer during the long Fair Grounds season in New Orleans, has nine horses in his care. Jockey Marcus Pena is the latest addition to the growing riding colony that Is I assembling for a try at the ,650 in War Bonds that president John L. Keeshin recently announced would be awarded to the four leading reinsmen of the meeting. Frederick Crafton, who will serve as a placing judge at the meeting, is due Monday, at which time he will begin to take registrations for badges and other matters j that must be handled before the opening.
