" I 1 , J i € J t N ! I J m ! ° . , , I i Changing to New Type Face Beginning with the racing of Monday, July 2, readers of Daily Racing Form will note a marked change in the charts and past performances. Consistent with the publishers policy of ever striving for improvement, the type now being used will be discarded and a larger and clearer face will be adopted. The employment of the new type means increased legibility and attractiveness. It can be read with far less strain on the eye than the old. Four years ago the type in the news columns of Daily Racing Form was materially increased in size. The reaction of the readers was so favorable that the publishers decided to make a similar change in the charts and past performances. The exigencies of the war prevented it then, but the publishers, with the co-operation of the typographic engineers of the Mergenthaler Linotype Company, continued to plan against the time when it would be possible. Now it can be done. After many months of experimentation, the Mergenthaler Linotype Company experts devised a new and exclusive type face that is ideally suited to Daily Racing Forms purpose. Compared with the present type, it stands out in striking contrast, as the following examples show. Here is the type now being used in the past performances: Nov. 1 44"Pim lAl£6%ft 3-5 4117 1 l4 l4 Is DodsonD2 WfaS 98 Devil Diver 126 Megogo 3 Oct.21-44;Lrl U-4 2:08%m l-5e4130 1 2! 4;J, 41" DodsonD4 HcpS 50 DareMe 109 M.ssKeenelan 1 110 Ae-a 6 Octl2-44iLrl ll-81:53%ft l-5o4126 1 1; 1* V DodsonD4 HcpS 80 G.Morngll8L.
