Charles Fails Medical Exam; Needs More Rest By the United Press Ezzard Charles, National Boxing Association heavyweight champion, flunked a special physical examination today and it was suggested he take a three months rest and return for further tests after that time. Dr. J. M. Houston, medical director for the Illinois Athletic Commission, put Charles through a rigorous examination at Charles request after he was forced to postpone two title dates with Freddie Beshore in Buffalo. He had been idle for three months. Houston, in a statement, Mid, "Our opinion is that the patient is not fit for strenuous exercise at the present time." He said, however, that Charles condition may improve with "proper rest and medication." "Further, our suggestion is that he be re-examined in three months to determine his medical status at that time."
