NEW POMP showed smart speed to rapidly attain a commanding advantage, then responded to pressure through the final stages to last over GREENS FOLLY. The latter was sluggish early and closed with a rush while swerving through the stretch. SIR LOPEZ rallied from last position, but could not reach the top pair. SERGEANT MONK rallied too late. Won driving; second and third the same QUARTER-MASTER, unhurried early, responded readily to good urging and wore down HELEN MAISEL. The latter set the pace after disposing of SOFT PEDAL, but could not resist the winner. COLYMBUS improved his position steadily in a good effort. BIG PA, badly outrun to the stretch, closed considerable ground. CENSORSHIP raced well in the late stages. NELSON LIGHT failed to improve his position. MANOTHEHOUR moved menacingly in the early stretch and faltered. SOFT PEDAL weakened after showing in front along the backstretch. GRAY RAIDER was outrun CLOUDBURST quit, as did ROZS BOY. Start good from bell. Won driving; second and third the same. TREPID, within striking distance while fencing well, responded nicely and wore down the faltering leader on the final flat. REPOSE trailed for more than a mile and made up considerable ground to wear down BAND LEADER. The latter was with the pace and forced to take an irregular course while PAGE COUNTY raced in front of him, held a clear lead going : over the final fence, then weakened badly. Snyders claim of foul against the winner seemed frivolous and no action was taken. SON DESPRIT raced and fenced well and seemed ready to go to the lead when hindered by a very bad landing at the thirteenth fence. PAGE COUNTY set the most pace for more than a mile and a half and faltered. MAKORBREAK quit and landed badly at the ninth jump. BAY ORDERS set the pace under rating and weakened through the stretch. WAR DAUBERS mild rally was insufficient. IKE JUNIOR raced forwardly and faltered. REWARD was outrun, as was SEA DEFENSE. The latter held a commanding lead while going easily through the first half mile, then drifted out while tirinq, taking PUPPET with him. WITCH WAY loomed a threat midway of the turn and faltered. MARCION attained command from the inside, was unable to draw clear and faltered. CORNWALL, hard pressed for the lead, weakened badly. BLUE TAIL FLY showed nothing.
