FIGHTING COMET, steadied within striking distance of the pace, slipped through along the rail to wrest tlw lead from APENNINE and was edging away at the end APENNINE forced the pace, overtook the leader in the stretch and was pressing at the end. ARCTIC IKE, forwardly placed on the outside, closed resolutely under pressure. ESSIE S. raced wide under late urging. ARAS BOY showed speed in establishing the pace to the final furlong, then tired. THE POOL lacked early speed CURED showed nothing. OLD TAR drifted out in the stretch. JUNGLE JUICE was never prominent. FILLE DE SEPT weakened. BERKELEY was outrun. OMABABE stumbled soon after leaving the gate and failed to recover sufficiently tc be near contention. TAKE AWAY, forwardly placed under stout restraint, secured racing room along the inside entering the stretch, assumed command and drew out under steady urging. YAZDEGERD, forwardly placed, was forced to take to the outside on the final turn, responded to pressure, but was unable to reach the winner. BOSS WELL raced with the pace, assumed a short lead on the final turn, then weakened. CRESSON KNIGHT closed stoutly after getting clear on the final turn. BATTLE BORN was in close quarters along tie inside. SENATOR C. stumbled leaving the gate, quickly recovered, but lacked a late rally. PICADELIA faltered. ZO-BO was unable to keep up. COURT RINA broke alertly, gave way to DARK PEER, remained close up and regained command before entering the stretch, drew clear under pressure and lasted to hold LAST LAP safe. The latter, a forward factor from the start, closed willingly in the late stages. FIRST CURTAIN drove up along the inside to be near the leaders, was unable to get through, swurg to the outside, but was unable to make up lost ground. ANGEL FOOD showed a good effort. DARK PEER showed good speed for three furlongs, then weakened. JAKANOR had no mishap. TITLE BOUT dropped far off the pace, rallied mildly in the late stages, but was unable to menace. EVERMINE flashed brief speed. HALLIE DEAR showed nothing. The others were outrun. Overweight— Angel Food, 1 pound; Jakanor, 3; Title Bout, 2; Halite Dear, 2; Advance Cross, 3. ARABESS, forwardly placed on the outside, lacked a closing rally. LYNN Z. rushed boldly on the far turn, then raced evenly. HERESA DREAM had no mishap. RED WHEAT raced evenly CIRCULATE showed nothing. TAP THE TILL was unable to keep up. PUDGIE was outrun. KING TWIG retireo steadily after failing to reach the pace in the opening quarter mite. HAREM assumed command at once, was rated under a steadying hand ride, responded gamely when roused and withstood a sustained drive from PLAYANNA. The latter moved to the leader after a half mile, remained in hand to the final quarter mile and engaged strongly, but was not good enough. RODGER JOE came through along the inside and was catching the leaders at the end. APPLAUSE, allowed to drop far off the pace, made up ground when roused, but was unable to threaten. VINITA REV challenged along the inside nearing the final turn, then flattened out. RAY OSULLIVAN faltered when roused. PINCERS was through after failing to get the early lead. HAPPY BOUND broke alertly, openeo a commanding lead in the first quarter mile, increased the margin when roused and lasted to prevail over DANNAS PENSIVE. The latter, in hand while improving position gradually, slipped through along the inside, came to the middle of track in the stretch and was catching the winner. SAM H. rallied through the stretch and closed willingly. QUEENS TASTE weakened from forcing the pace. QUESTAGAIN, forwardly placed, lacked a closing challenge. SUMMER CRUISE was unable to threaten. SEDULOUS, close upon along the rail for a mile flattened out under late urging. REYNARD set the pace for five furlongs before weakening. AT EASE was never prominent. MAESTRO tired.
