POWER PLANT vied for the lead on the inside, took command in the stretch and gradually drew clear. FREE ON held a slight advantage until nearing the furlong post and held on willingly, but was not good enough. VALENCIA.NO had speed early and weakened. BERNLEY was outrun. TROPICAL tired. FIRST REFUSAL made the pace from the start, except for a brief distance between calls nearing the turn, drew away when roused leaving the turn and won with something left. TOQUILA saved ground under urging, could not menace the top one, but proved next best. ADRIUTHA went up to threaten mildly leaving the turn and had nothing left for the drive. SAO PAULO was rank during the running. DRESS AFFAIR was outrun. CHIPSON was used up pressing the pace and quit. Scratched— 56451 Blessusgals, 108; 55925 Idontknow, 115. First Refusal claimed by D. SONATINE was on nearly even terms for command from the break, shook off HALLEY when ready, drew out under brisk handling on the final turn and won fully extended. FIDDLERS CHOICE worked his way up between horses, held on willingly when called upon, but could not match strides with the winner. ESCARP, knocked back sharply at the break, went up to be a formidable contender on the backstretch and weakened thereafter. FONDA tired after being forwardly placed until the sixth hurdle. EL ARABI was bothered at the start and failed to threaten thereafter. FURTHERMORE was outrun. AVONWOOD quit. HALLEY bobbled at the sixth fence and failed to recover. Won driving; second and third the same. BLUE IDLE held a slight advantage from the start and continued stubbornly until the end to finish in a dead-heat for first with CAJOLE. The latter appeared sluggish the opening furlong, pressed the pace on the outside and finished on even terms with BLUE IDLE. FIDDLERS GIRL was well placed between horses and turned in a good effort. QUIZ SONG saved ground early while never far back, came out for the drive and was going away after disposing of DARK FAVORITE in the late stages. The latter improved position from the outside to obtain command and held on well, but was not good enough. SUNSHINE "NELL went between the leaders to reach command briefly leaving the turn and weakened in the drive. ATALANTA lacked speed and raced wide most of the way. WINSHIP tired. BLENOMAR, steadied along on the rail while vying for the lead, shook off HOMELY DUKE midway of the final furlong and held EOLUS clear under punishment. The latter, well placed on the inside early, dropped back on the turn while under restraint, then closed with a belated rush. HOMELY DUKE dueled for command on the outside and gave way suddenly the final sixteenth mile. SPRINGTALE was best of tired horses. POTPOURRI went well for six furlongs and gave way. RINGGOLDIAN made the pace on the inside, bore out and swung wide leaving the turn, increased his advantage under punishment in the stretch and won fully extneded. MIGHTY RULER, knocked back leaving the gate, moved up to ba sharp contender before three furlongs, but could not menace when set down for the drive. KENO had no excuse. ADA C. had good speed for five furlongs and, tired. WARrASTER moved through on the rail to threaten leaving the turn and gave way. LANDLORD, reserved in the early stages, moved up between horses and was blocked momentarily midway of the turn, forged through when clear, then came to the outside for the drive and wore down LORD GRAIL. The latter, allowed to settle into stride early, moved up rapidly on the outside when called upon, gained command in the stretch and just failed. BLUE W. went into the lead when WAVESAB quit, held on willingly, but was not good enough. MR. DEL had to be cautiously handled while moving through on the inside. SKY BLUE tired.
