Quebec Assn Afters Rules OnApprenticeAIIowgnces OnApprenticeAIIowgncesGets Gets 10 Pounds Until He Rides First Winner 7 Up to 20 Winners WinnersMONTREAL MONTREAL Que June 6 The Prov ¬ ince of Quebec Racing Association Inc in an effort to attract more youngsters to the Cranks of apprentice riders has amended its rules with respect to allowances for ap ¬ prentice jockeys and prescribed certain requirements for apprentice contracts contractsThe The amended rules include new provi ¬ sions which allow an apprentice rider 10 pounds until he has ridden one winner winnerThereafter Thereafter an apprentice may claim seven pounds allowance until he has rid ¬ den 20 winners then an allowance of five pounds for one year from the date of rid ¬ ing his first winner or thereafter for three years immediately following until he has ridden a total of 40 winners winnersThe The Amended Rules read as follows followsA A Any male between the ages of 16 and 25 years who has of his own free will and if under age with the written consent of his parents or guardian bound himself to an owner or trainer for terms of hot less than three yearssnor more than five years subject to written extension if made for less than five years by written contract approved and filed with the Quebec Racing Association Inc and after at least one years service with a racing stable may claim in all overnight races the following allowances 1 Ten pounds until he has ridden one winner 2 Seven pounds until he has ridden 20 winners 3 Five pounds until he has ridden 20 ad ¬ ditional winners If he has ridden 40 win ¬ ners prior to the end of one year from date of riding his first winner the five pound allowance continues until the end of the year yearB B An owner or trainer may not hold contracts on more than two apprentices at one time timeC C All holders of apprentice contracts shall be subject to investigation as to char ¬ acter ability facilities and financial re ¬ sponsibility and shall at the time of mak ¬ ing contract owned in good faith a mini ¬ mum of three horses in training or if a trainer shall operate in good faith a stable of at least three horses horsesD D Contracts for apprentice jockeys shall provide for fair remunerations ade ¬ quate medical attention and suitable board and lodging for the apprentice and ap ¬ proved provision shall be made in savings out of his earnings earningsE E Under exceptional circumstances such as inability of an apprentice to ride ridebecause because of war service or restrictions on racing personal injuries or not having a full threeyear period from date of riding his first race to complete weight allowance the stewards may extend the periods pro ¬ vided for above aboveF F No apprentice shall be permitted to acquire his own contract contractG G No apprentice may end the original contract and enter into another one for the duration of his original contract contractH H Only a written bona fide transfer will be honored by the stewards stewardsI I A time allowance will be made for an apprentice jockey who does not accept riding engagements after the end of the Canadian season he will in such case re ¬ ceive a time allowance of a f till calendar year after riding his first winner
