Evenesta Accounts For Cranwoods Quick Purse 1 Ohio Course Near Cleveland Host to 4000 for Inaugural InauguralBy By RONALD KRANCER KRANCERStaff Staff Correspondent CRANWOOD PARK Warrensville Heights Ohio June 8 Cranwood Park opened its summer meeting on an optimis ¬ tic note this afternoon with a fine Monday crowd of nearly 4000 in attendance The track which was resurfaced and made larger over the past few months was in excellent condition and was carried as good There was some moisture in the course which was caused by a rainy week end here in Cleveland ClevelandIn In the featured Quick Purse at six panels T O Logsdons Evenesta ridden by his soninlaw Frankie Maher came through with a length and onequarter decision over Gerties Last Sign It was third another head in arrears The favorite Skylander wound up a disappointing sixth in the eight horse affair It was the second con ¬ secutive victory for the LogsdonMaher outfit for they also won the sixth race with Pat Brooks BrooksMaher Maher did an excellent job in rating the daughter of New World in the early stages of the Quick He was quite content to allow Gerties Last to go out and set the pace with Skylander in pursuit It was not until the field raced into the far turn did Maher hit his mount and when he did she re ¬ sponded gamely and moved up on the out ¬ side of Gerties Last LastRacing Racing into the straightway through the stretch the pacesetter still held on gamely but only by a head while in along the rail Just inside the furlong pole Evenesta forged to the front and then under an oc ¬ casional sting by Mahers whip drew clear to her clever score scoreEvenesta Evenesta who was bred by Larry Mc Phail was winning his fourth race of the season in 14 starts She has already bet ¬ tered last seasons output when she only won three tunes
