Long has In training quarters at Churchill Downs twenty-four two-year-olds. They were bred at his ISashford Manor Stud and they make up what horsemen in these parts say is the grandest collection of youngsters that a barn at the famous old track has sheltered in years. Mr. Long has claimed names for all or these two-year-olds, but up to now publicity has been given to only those entered in the stakes for the springy meeting at Sheepshead Bay and Brighton Beach. Alvescot is a young English-bred horse and these two-year-olds are the first of his get in this country. Alvescot is by Rachurn out of Alberta aiul was foaled in 1897. lie is a chestnut horse of splendid conformation. Alleviator, by this young stallion, out of Alleviate a good race marc in her day and dam of the good filly Zienap was highly tried as a yearling and Mr. Long thinks a great deal of him as a racing prospect. However, it would seem to be his Intention to reserve him for racing in the fall, since he has named him to only one of the spring stakes, the Montauk at Brighton Beach, but be is in the Flatbush and the Great Eastern, to be decided at the autumn meeting of the Coney I sialyl Jockey Club, and it is quite likely that he will be nominated for the chief events for his age at Saratoga, and at Brighton Beach ami Brooklyn in the fall. Alveston and Asteroid have been named for the Great Trial and the Double Event; Antrim and Asteroid are in the Winged Foot Handicap; Alveston is in the Montauk with Alleviator; An- trim is in the Spring; the half-sister to Sir Huou, the filly by Alvescot Ignite, is in the Distaff and the Vernal; Alleviator, Asteroid and Alveston are in the Autumn; Ascite is in the Zephyr and Algelone is in the Vernal. Algelone is a half-sister to Mansard. Mr. Long will begin the seasons campaign at Churchill Downs in May and from Latoniu will ship to Sheepshead Bay.
