FALSE BREAK IN THE LAST RACE AT ASCOT. Judges Order it Run Over Borghesi Wins the Ascot Cup "Doping" Case Postponed. Los Angeles, Cal., February 22. A big holiday crowd witnessed the excellent sport at Ascot Park. The feature event, the Ascot Cup, at two miles, was won by C. T. Boots Borghesi. He carried top weight and made Wire In and Banker look cheap, winning in a romp. The victory was popular and the winner was wreathed with a Horal horseshoe. The track record was reduced five and one-quarter seconds. Seventeen books did business. The betting was heavy and spirited. There was a misunderstanding about the start in the last race. All but Alsono and Mattie Speucer ran to a false break. Starter Holtman shouted for the boys to come back, but they did not heed him. The Roustabout romped home in front of Smithy Kane, which easily beat Tender Crest for third place. After Judge Hamilton learned from Holtman that he did not send the field away, the horses were ordered back to the post, Alsono winning Willi Tender Crest second and Mattie Spencer third. The others were given easy rides. The judges have decided that all cases brought before them in the last week will be decided before the meeting of the directors next AVednesday. This includes The Huguenot "doping" case.
