ASCOT DIRECTORS HEARING EVIDENCE. Findings In the Several Cases are Expected this Morning Weinberg Aids McCafferty. . Los Angeles, Cal., February 2S. Directors of the Los Angeles Jockey Club are hearing evidence in the oases of J. J. McCafferty, Henry MeDnnlel and . T. Boots, versus General Manager J. W. Brooks and C. K. Dnrnell, versus J. J. McCafferty in the Van Nuys Hotel tonight and if decisions are reached it is not likely that they will be given out before morning. The directors held a short star chamber session at Ascot Park this morning, adjourning at one oclock to meet tonight. At the morning session starter Jake Holtman was first called. He said that he and Manager Brooks had bad some words atiout the starting at Ascot Park shortly after his arrival from San Francisco, but that the matter had been amicably settled. Garnet Ferguson testified at the morning session that one of the stipulations he made as to the three-cornered race between Bearcatcher, Cruzados iind Ilandzarra was that the track should be fast; that he would like it as hard as an asphalt pavement if that were possible. Testimony as to the condition of the track on that day anil the previous day was taken. . .1 A. Wernberg. the Brooklyn lawyer, in whose colors the horses trained by J. J. McCafferty are raced, is here as the attorney for bis trainer and he lias nut in a couple of busy days getting evidence to substantiate McCaffertys charges, as well as testimony by which lie hopes to exonerate him from the charge of "doping" The Huguenot. This horse made a poor showing in his race today.
