OFFICIAL RULINGS ARE MADE PUBLiC. Action of Pacific Jockey Club Stewards Against J. J. McCafferty Occasions Surprise at Oakland. San Francisco, Cal., March 21. The official ruling of the Pacific Jockey Club in the cases of C. E. Durnell and J. J. McCafferty were made public today as" follows: "At the meeting of the stewards of the Pacific Jockey Club held at the office of the club, 2a. Kearney Street, March 20, 190C, President William E. Dunn, Adam Andrew and Thomas II. Williams, the appeal from the ruling of the stewards of the Ascot Jockey Club in the .case of C. E. Durnell was Investigated. From the evidence the stewards of the Pacific Jockey Club increased the penalty In-flictcd upon C. E. Durnell and ruled hiin off for life. The horses of C. E. Durnell were reinstated for the purpose of sale to owners in good standing on the turf. "The ruling of the judges of Ascot Park as against J. J. McCafferty wa3 reviewed and McCafferty was ruleTl off for life." General surprise is expressed over the action taken against the absent J. J. McCafferty, who had taken no steps toward securing either a vindication or a reduction of the Ascot Park suspension of one year. H. M. Roth,- a horse-shoer employed by Durnell, gave the most damaging testimony against hiiu, citing Alderman Batt, New Mown Hay and several other horses as examples of improper shoeing in their races. j C. C. McCaffectys testimony was friendly to Durnell and inimical to his brother. Improved racing obtained at Oakland this afternoon, the card being oue of the best of the meeting. Many good horses were engaged In the different races. The showing qf Callaghan was particularly noteworthy. There were twenty-eight books doing business in. the Jietting mrlnsiinv t, ,,, -i,,.. -. The Spreckels "string, headed by" Dariima and Morlta, has been turned out on the Napa ranch. Morita shipped badly and was taken off the cars quite sick. Barney Schrelbers champion three-year-old, Dr. Gardner, will certainly be a starter in the Tennessee Derby if lie meets with no mishap enroute to Memphis.
