STILL IN PURSUIT OF DR. SLICER. New York, Marcii 21. Regarding Rev. A. S. Greggs threat that he would "make a fool" of Key. Dr. Thomas It. Slicer, of All Souls Unitarian Church, unless Dr. .Slicer retracted his statement that the poolrooms were behind the Cassidy-Lansing anti-gambling bill, Dr. Slicer said that there was a mistake somewhere, and that he had written to Mr. Gregg explaining just what he did say regarding the Influence behind the bill. Rev. Slicer remains firm in bis refusal to have anything to say in reply to Anthony Comstocks charges that he was in the pay of the Jockey Club, because he refused to support the Cassidy-Lansing bill, which Anthony Comstock claims lie drew up. "It Is obvious that I am In the right," said Dr. Slicer." "As to the Cassidy-Lansing bill I am convinced that the people must be convinced that gambling is wrong before the vice can be suppressed. It will be premature to attempt to legislate gambling out of existence until that conviction is general. The people are not educated to that standard. There are too many interested, and it is too strong a passion to lie abolished thus summarily." Dr. Slicer said that he was iot going to Albany to urge the defeat of the bill.
