Beckon has been well seasoned by actual racing and that seasoning stood her In good stead today. Breaking none too well, .Mountain threaded her past the others and she came home an easy winner from P. H. McCarrens Clara J. and Herman Duryeas Whip Top. Eight of tht! eleven subscribers had starters in the field and Beckon was always the favorite. Mr. Hitchcock made no secret of the condition of his fdly and that, coupled with her excellent performances in recent races, resulted in support that took the price from a high notation of S to 5 down to even money at the closing. Clara .7. was off running and made the pace to the stretch and in a long drive managed to last long enough to save second place from Whip Top, which finished resolutely after having followed the early leaders. Cedar, the filly that carried the colors of l. .T. Dwyer, was unfortunate at the start and, after breaking last, she was oulfooted in the tarly stages so that she had no chance at any time. Beckon and Monopolist were the only winning favorites of the afternoon. The second Keene victory came in the mile and a sixteenth handicap, when Cabochon. at 20 to 1. romped in front of his opponents all the way and won with his ears pricked up. In the field was Uunning Water, the Suburban candidate of the Newcastle Stable. She always was favorite, hut was So badly cut off and pocketd throughout the running, that it was an evidence of excellent quality for her to race to second place.
