There was much more enthusiasm than the program merited. There were no stake races on the card, which had as a feature a steeplechase over the two-mile course. This race proved a pretty contest, the horses running hunched for the first turn of the field, after which George Leiper drew away and won in a canter. George Leiper fenced well and ran a good race. His victory was evidently anticipated by his people for the heavy betting drove his price "from 4 to 1 to t to 5. Tarpon, which finished third, was ridden by a gentleman rider, .Mr. Tavlur. The fields in most of the races were-well balanced with the result that the finishes were close enough to make interesting contests. Favorites won the last three races and F.nghinder and McDaniel carried of the riding honors, each having the mounts on two of the winners. JJarnev Schreibers colors were seen in front in the last two races, which were won by Killiecrankie and Minnie G. Seymour Beutler, another of the Schreiber horses, was a starter in the first race, for which he was heavily backed. It was said that he was the best two-year-old In the Schreiber stable and the public fell in line when they saw the stable money go on. The best Seymour Beutler could do, however, was to finish second to Win. II. Lyons, which won in decisive fashion after making most all of the pace. The race was a fast one, the four and a half furlongs being run in 55 seconds. . , After Tom Dolans good performance in the fourth race, when he ran the mile in 1:39. and finished out the mile and forty yards in 1:43J, his trainer. . L. Phillips was much put out because lie .had not started the colt in the Derby Saturday. Tom Dolan showed extreme speed in his race today and was never in trouble. He beat Ampedo out in a canter and the latter is rated a pretty fair sort of a plater with light weight up. . Among todays arrivals was Edward Peters, who got in with six horses from New York, Several bookuikakers who were operating at Hamilton and Montreal, got in this morning and went on this afternoon. Speculation was lively and there is still room for a few more. W. A. Porter and Jack Atkin arrived today.
