The race was at a mile and a sixteenth and had for starters among them Carthage. Old Honesty and Good Luck. Donna was the extreme- outsider in the speculation. Old Honesty and Carthage l eiug the preferred ones. The latter was considered somewhat in the nature of a good thing. In the running the quautette was closely grouped throughout. Old Honesty. Carthage and Donna alternating iu the lead during the different stages of the journey. In the final drive Donna proved the gamest and won by a neck from Carthage, Good Luck taking third place by three lengths. If rumors ran be dei ended on. Old Honesty was palpably un fit to start in the rac-. as it is said all the work that he has had since his last start was a couple of light canters and a half-mile workout. Letcher of the Kentucky Association, that on account of inability to finish the steeplechase coarse in time, there would not be any Jumping races during the spring meeting at the Lexington track. J. C. Milams Merrick injured himself in yesterdays race and will not be a starter again during the season here. Jockey V. Towers has received a flattering offer to go to New York and ride for W. II. Du Bois. He will in all probability accept it and go there at the close of the racing here. After the steeplechase J. Johnson, owner of Dario. gave him to J. C.
