WING TINGS BAD FORTUNE. LOSES OAKLANDS FEATURE RACE THROUGH THE SLIPPING OF HER SADDLE. "Cricket" Kelly Bides Her Home Bareback — Santa Anita Owners Applying for Stall Room — Several Jockeys Reinstated. Oakland, Cal.. March 26.— "Cricket" Kelly performed a remarkable feat of horsemanship when he rode Wing Ting bareback into a close third in the Rurlingame Handicap at Oakland today. This unique jockey stunt was witnessed by 6,000 spectators, who marvelled at the riders skill in keeping his seat after the saddle had been displaced early in the running. Wing Ting was the most heavily backed favorite of the afternoon, and her backers could not have lost but for the accident, as the Hawkins mare made the running from the start and was leading under a pull by a comfortable margin at the time. Favorites held" their own all through. The card was above average excellence and the very best brand of racing developed. There was a slight falling off in the number of books doing business, Barney Schreiber being a conspicuous absentee. The Missouri breeder left for Santa Anita, to be gone a week. "Happy" Buxton was the outstanding feature in a jockey way, he riding three winners to victory with consummate skill. The stewards took favorable action today in the case of the suspended jockeys. Borel, Mclntyre and Eddie Lynch. The trio were restored to good standing. The public evinced much pleasure over the return to saddle work of the crack lightweight Lynch. K. Bauer arrived from the south today with Critic and one other. J. J. Walsh also came up from Los Angeles and his big string of horses will follow immediately. E. Trotter will sell all of his horses excepting Teter Sterling and Billy Tullman before the meeting closes. Bookmaker Benny Falk has quit the ring here. He is said to be a big loser on the season. S.
