Simcoe gained steadily from a slow beginning and, coming with a rush in the last sixteenth, outstayed Gavin. The latter, away fast, was restrained for a quarter and went into the lead when straightened out in the stretch, hut tired slightly in the last few strides. Transform was poorly ridden and swerved all over the track, but finished fast and gaining. Joe Howell showed the most early speed, but tired after going a quarter. Nigger Baby ran poorly and quit in the last furlong. Scantling, forced to go wide from an outside position, ran fairly well. Guy Fisher had no mishaps. Broadside was green and will improve. Gait, under a poor ride, ran a good race and would have been much closer up with a stronger rider. Jallitliea was kept far back throughout and can do much better. Dario quit after going over three jumps. Woodside fell heavily at the third jump. Gold Circle and Itacatlara attempted to run out at the fifth jump and unseated their riders. Rebel Queen ran in improved form under a hustling ride and cut stayed Rustle in the closing drive. Rustle appeared sore when going to the post and showed speed for a half, but failed to respond well when hard urged in the final struggle. Carthago set or forced a fast pace and raced 4ld Honesty into subjection in the first three-quarters, but tired slightly in the stretch from his early effort. Good Luck had no niis-kaMM and ran fairly well. Old Honesty was raced into exhaustion in the first three quarters and tired badly in the stretch run.
