SEAGRAMS FIRST SUCCESS AT TORONTO. Wins the Breeders" Stakes with Courtier and Runs Second with Tollendal. Toronto. Ont., May 2.1.— The black and yellow sash of Joseph E. Seagram, president of the Ontario Jockey club, colors that are popular with Toronto race goers, were seen in front for the first time at the meeting when Courtier carried them to victory in the Breeders Stakes at Woodbine this afternoon. Secretary Eraser provided an attractive program. Besides the Breeders. Stakes, there were offered as attraction the Coronation Stakes the Prince of Wties Handicap and the Melguml Steeplechase. Well matched fields went to the post in a majority ot the races and interesting contests were In order P. T. Chiiiii furnished the winner in the Prince of Wales Handicap in the fast rilly. Ladv Irma. which showed dazzling s| eed. while St. Cecilia, trained by -ilHam Shields, gathered In the Coronation Stakes The latter had to he much the Wat to win She was very green at the post and when the barrier was sprung propped and was practically left. Tollendal was much he hest of the two. and in the final quarter Musgrave was forced to take a stout hold on him to allow Courtier to win. In the Melgund Steeplechase. Agent showed that he had not forgotten his old trick of bolting. He appeared to outclass the others and received strong support, but at the second jump he bore out.
