JOCKEY REID IN RARE FORM BOYS RIDING THE FEATURE OF YESTERDAYS RACING AT FORT ERIE. Dos Causes Bad Spill in Race Won by Creel P. M. Civill Wins Two Races Jockey Mclntyre in Trouble. Buffalo. N. Y., July 7. Jockey James Reid was very much in the limelight at Fort Erie this afternoon. Young Keid rode the winner in four of the six races and in two instances was called on to dis- Slay good horsemanship and ability as a finisher, tromeland. Personal, Arrow Swift and Creel were Heids winning mounts. Keid had a large following at Montreal and Hamilton and it now looks as If he will be the popular rider with the public at Fort Erie. The card offered by the Niagara Racing Association this afternoon was a fair one. The fields averaged better so far as class goes than those that went to the post yesterday, but picking winners was. far frbm easy. Creel being the only favorite that won during the afternoon. P. M. Civill furnished two of the winners Arrow Swift and Creel and in each instance a large crowd gathered around the judges stand with the expectation of witnessing a run-up. The boosters were not on hand however. Dispute, the three-year-old that C. E. Mahone claimed from W. P. Reed yesterday, was returned to the latter this morning. A nasty looking accident occurred just after the start in the sixth race. Directly the barrier" was sprung a dog dashed across the track in front of the field and Campaigner appeared to stumble over him. In the next ten yards the field bunched up. the horses on the outside bearing over against those close to the rail. There was a lot of jostling and in the mlxup Campaigner fell and Jack Baker, who was in behind him, tumbled over the prostrate horse and rider. Everything was hidden In the cloud of dust that arose and for a time it was thought that both boys were hurt, hut fortunately the riders escaped with no further injury than a severe shaking up. Just as this excitement subsided, another accident occurred, in the paddock, witli more serious results. While walking about, former jockey Willie Martin was kicked in the side by Chepontuc and the blow of the horses hoofs rendered him unconscious. It was some minutes before he recovered his senses. After the races jockey Mclntyre got into a flst fight, with jockey Reid and struck the latter twice before they were separated. Judge NelsOn happened to be standing close by at the time and he told Mclntyre to cancel whatever engagements he had for tomorrow, which probably means that Mclntyre will b6 suspended. The yearlings that John Dyment and .Mr. Lamb of Toronto purchased at the Fasig-Tipton sales arrived here this morning from New York, and were sent on to Woodbine. There were five in the Dyment lot. three of which are by Star Shoot, one bv Voter and another by Sir Dixon. The Lamb consignment consisted of two Sir Dixons and the three-year-old filly. Pills. James McLaughlin.. Jr.. and jockey Tommy Burns arrived from Latonia this morning. P. j. allies and Tom Kiley also got in from the Kentucky course.
