HILAHIOUS AND FITZ HERBERT. Comparative Racine of Two Cracks Named to Start in the Advance Stakes Today. The meeting of Fitz Herbert and Hilarious is an event of eager anticipation on the part of New-York patrons of racing. Each is undefeated this year and each has shown great speed and stamina in racing. It has generally heen supposed that their first meeting would he in the valuable Law-Tence Realization next Tuesday, but apparently their owners have concluded to allow them to measure strides in the shorter distance Advance Stakes this afternoon. If they both go to the post, great will be the excitement at Sheepshead Bay and the large following of one or the other is sure to be bitterly disappointed and the other correspondingly elated. The records of the two fine colts show that each has won three races in actual competition this year and Fitz Herbert has had a walkover in addition. Fitz Herbert made his first start of the year at Belmont Park May 120. and, with 123 pounds up. won the Pocantico Stakes at three-quarters of a mile in 1:13. defeating Lady Bedford, 114. Henley, 108. Sententious, 111. and Yama. 111. His next start was in the Broadway Stakes at Gravescnd, one and one-sixteenth miles. He carried US pounds and won easily by two lengths in 1:47. with Fashion Plate. 114, second and Tetticoat. 100, third; Mar-cellus. 111 and Turncoat, 10S. ran unplaced. His next and greatest triumph was in winning the Suburban Handicap at Sheepshead Bay June 24. Here he carried 105 pounds and, waitiug until his stablemate; Restigouehe, had carried .on the running at a great pace for a mile, went to the front and, drawing away, Avon pulling up by ten lengths in 2:03?. Alfred Noble, witli 104 pounds, was second. Fayette. 101 pounds, third and Kings Daughter, 100, Itestigouche. 121, and Fashion Plate. 92. ran unplaced. His walkover was for the Coney Island JocKey Club Stakes July 3. Hilarious made his debut this year in the Withers Stakes at "Belmont Park, May 22. The distance was one mile and he had for opponents Joe Madden and Fayette. All carried 12G pounds. Hilarious led throughout and won by four; lengths easing up. with Joe Madden second and Fayette third. The truck was sloppy and the time 1:41 i. His second start was in the Carlton Stakes at Gravesend. June 12. having Joe Madden, Fayette and Practical in opposition. This race was, or should have been, as easy for him as the Withers. y He led by from four to six lengths to within a sixteenth of the finish, when Butwell began pulling him up. and Joe Madden, coming with a sudden rush, almost got up and was only beaten a half length. Tuts bit of stupidity cost Butwell bis job of riding the Keene horses. The mile of the race was covered in 1:41. and the two leaders each had up 12C pounds. Fayette carrying 122 and Practical 111. His last race was in the mile and a quarter Tidal Stakes, at Sheepshead Bay, Jnne 20. The starters were Hilarious. Joe Madden and Fayette. 120 pounds each, and County Fair, 123. Hilarious led by a wide gap all the way and in a splendid display of speed and stamina won by two and a half lengths in 2:05. with Fayette second and Joe Madden third. A comparison of the racing of the pair seems to indicate that with equal weight up they are not far apart, and if Xtoth go to the post today there finish. It is to be may be a close and thrilling noted that in all of his races Hilarious has had stake weight of 120 pounds in the saddle, while Fitz Ilertert has carried less. However, the ability of the latter to carry high weight successfully was amply shown when he was a two-year-old. Their comparative records this year are: Hilarious. Race and distance. Wt. Time. Withers Stakes, 1 mile.. l-!i. 1:411 Carlton Stakes. 1 nille 12. 1:41 Tidal Stakes, 1 1-4 miles 12b 2:0. Fitz Herbert. Race and distance. W"t- Time.
