FINANCIAL SIDE OF EASTERN RACING. "It is an erroneous impression that because the racing season has been extended to November 15. and there will be few open dates, the tracks will all make money." savs the New York Sun. "Tile Belmont Park and Gravesend meetings were run at a slight loss, it is said, and the Coney Island Jockey Club will be extremely lucky if the present session at Sheepshead Bay results in an even break financially. In keeping the tracks open this year the turf magnates say they have been actuated by a desire to provide an opportunity to horsemen to maintain heir stables without loss and to prevent the breeding Industry from dying out. They are hopeful as to the future, but they sav they do not expect the old days of prosperity to return for some time. The maintenance of a race track is an expensive luxury. It is estimated that the dally expense incurred will be more than ,000. As the attendance is limited to the regulars. It is argued that dividends are impossible under the present circumstances."
