: THIRTY LEADING THREE-YEAR OLDS : Last year, after the shipments abroad, anyone moderately conversant -with the details of racing would ha-ve named Maskette and Fayette as the probable top-notch filly and colt respectively among the three-year-olds of tliis year and very few would have thought of Joe Madden or Hilarious in that connection. Fitz Herbert could easily have been given high rank. In the outcome Maskette has met all expectations. Fayette has started seven times and been beaten seven times. Fitz Herbert and Hilarious are the undisputed leaders among the three-year-old colts and Joe Madden has won more money than any other horse in the country. Except in the case of Maskette, this is overturning things with a vengeance and the situation is interesting. There may be other complications presently. The Meddler colt. Detective, is credited with a tremendous mile and a half trial recently and Fayette is giving indications of late pointing to recovery of ills undeniable good form of last year. In the west Olambala, Piute and Plaudmore have shown form that will have to be considered when the clans of the east and the west gather at Saratoga next mou Ui. So far as money won is concerned, Joe Madden and nilarlous are so far In front of the others that at present it is simply a race between the pair, with Hilarious having a chance to make a close thing of it if he wins the Lawrence Realization next Tuesday. Only this pair, Maskette and High Private have won 0,000 or more, all of the other winners being far below this sum.
