NOTES OF THE TURF. Twenty of R. F. Carmans horses are quartered at the Empire City track. The Prix Coudray at St. Cloud Monday was won by Nash Turners Pillard. Fashion Plate is announced as a sure starter in the Empire City Handicap Saturday. Jockey George Coburu has put in an appearance at Victoria, B. C, where the horses of V. H. Terry, his contract employer, are being raced. George Reid, John Powers. Archie Zimmcr, Frank Regan and Joseph Jlorroue transferred their horses from Long Island to Yonkers Sunday by boat. Running and trotting races will be given in connection with the festival of the Catholic Knights of America at Suburban Park, Algiers, next Sunday. Thomas C. JIcDowells stable of twelve horses has been transferred from Sheepshcad Bay to Yonkers. Kings Daughter is a sure starter in the Empire City handicap. Trainer O. J. Decker, who in former years handled a few horses from the Jlontpelier stable on the Pacific coast, will ship Desirous and Gatieiit Lass from New York to Fort Erie. James McLaughlins Aroudack has fully recovered from the effects of having picked up a nail at Hamilton and probably will bo a starter in the Whirl Stakes at the Empire City track Thursday. Walter Jennings is on a trip to Lexington, Kv., to look over some yearlings with a view of purchasing about a dozen. He will return to New York in about ten days and ship his two-year-olds to Saratoga. Among the horses owned by Paul J. Rainey that Edward Peters has shipped from Sheepshcad Bay to Saratoga are Rosseau, brother to Roseben and Voltaire, half-brother to Strike Out. Both are two-year-olds. II. G. Bedwell worked several of his horses at the Empire City track Sunday morning. Fireball and Richard Reed went three-quarters in 1:172. Belle-view. Hans and Nadzu pulled up a mile in 5?, and Prince Ahmed covered three-quarters In 1:1C. Chief Joseph, an Idaho horse, owned by W. P. Shafer, Is attracting much attention at the Butte track. He Is a three-year-old by Dark Secret, out of Yuel, and reminds the Butte racing folk of Jack Nunnally when he was in training there as a three-year-old maiden. JIajor Eustace Loder has, according to report, decided to call his Galliuule Admiration two-year-old Quatre Bras. The English critics are predicting great things for this brother to Pretty Polly and one of their number has already gone so far as to select him as the winner of next years Derby. Henry du Brisay, a prominent French writer and playwright, is advocating In the 1aris press the abolition .of parl-mutuel betting under government control, aie would have the government turn race track betting over to a syndicate of bookmaker, who would be required to deposit a big guarantee fund and to confine their operations to an enclosure, for which a high admission fee should be charged.
