FANCY PRICED TRIO MEET STRIKE OUT. SECURITY AND WOODLANDS SEEN IN RACE AT WINDSOR. First Named Triumphs Over the Others Hyperion II. Acts Strangely and Cave Adsum Bleeds in Feature Race at Canadian Track. Detroit, Mich., August 2. Racing conditions today at Windsor were ideal and another banner crowd was present to witness the decision of seven, well-filled and evenly-balanced races, of which a steeplechase and a mile dash were the features. The jumping race was spectacular1 and resulted in a victory for the promising beginner, alio Poet, from J. C. Ferriss stable. On the strength of his good showing before coming to grief in the Canadian Steeplechase at Fort Erie he was the most fancied and rewarded the confidence of bis backers by leading for the entire trip and winning handily over John Dillon and Class Leader. Iluddy was the only one of the six starters to come to grief. He fell at the tenth fence while going well in a forward position. The mile dasii was unsatisfactory on account of Hyperion II. s failure to run to his previous showing and Cave Adsum being stricken with a hemorrhage". Hyperion II. and First Premium were the betting choices, the Texan candidate lieing slightly preferred near the end. He won. but only after a spirited stretch drive to down John A. Hyperion 11. ran forwarder for a quarter, then shortened his stride steadily and finally stopped of his own accord. Trainer Johnson could not account for the horses behavior and -It may be possible that lie is ailing, though no sign of trouble could he detected before or after the race, the horse cooling out in good fashion. Strike Out. Security and Woodlands, three former celebrities for which fancy prices were paid, met in the fifth race and furnished a spirited struggle. Strike Out won In the final stride from Security. The mile and a half race was one of the heist long races seen In these parts. Hie ten starters running closely grouped for nearly the entire trip. 1 Flora Hiley. the favorite, drew out in the last six- I teentli. only to lie nearly nipped at the end br the M rastcoming Doubt, which Mcjntyre. on Flora Riley, failed to see. In the opener Inflection came with a rush .through the stretch and got up to score a head victory over Lotta Creed, with Scruples only a few inches hack. Pntsalaga managed to outgame English Esther In the fourth, with Grace Dixon, only a head behind tha pair. After leading for five furlongs, the incompetent S. Davis permitted Selwik to holt in the final sixteenth of the nice, and the circumstance enabled the suddenly improved Coonev K. to win. J. W. May Inaugurated the bidding up of horses In selling races at Windsor when be raised Flora Rileys entered price or 00 to ,200. but failed to get her. The judges had J. Reld in the stand for a curtain lecture after the sixth race for his poor effort on Stromeland. Jockeys Ross and Rice were each suspended for three days by the starter for disobedience at the iwst.
