YOUNG ROCK SANDS SHOWING WELL. New York. August 24. Considerable interest is centered in the yearling trials of August Belmonts Rock Sand colts and fillies, now being prepared for racing at Belmont Iark. It is already evident that the first of the youngsters by the Derby winner possess speed and lots of it. While nothing approaching fast work has been required of them, they nevertheless gallop and breeze in a manner that indicates class. In several sets, consisting of juveniles by Hastings, the greatest son of Rayon dOr, and Octagon, the perfect action of the Rock Sands is easily apparent. Botii Hastings and Octagon are famous for getting horses that mature early. Hence it is obvious that the two colts and three fillies by the son of Sainfoin, to be handled by trainer John Whalen. will have to show trials of an exceptionally high character in order to maintain prestige. Judging from their flattering moves or about 300 yards, it is safe to predict that the Rock Sands will qualify when put to a real test of speed.
