FORT ERIE STABLES HAVE FILLED. Entry Fees for Overnight Races During Coming Meeting All Eyes on Jacksonville Stakes. Buffalo. N. Y.. August 24. The last of the consignments of racers that were shipped from Windsor arrived at Fort Erie this afternoon and almost every stall on the grounds is now occupied by the thoroughbreds. The nine-day meeting which is scheduled to begin August 20 and continue to September 4, promises to be a good one, although there are not nearly as many horses here as there were for the summer meeting. The same otliclals will preside in the different departments as during the summer meeting and all are now on the ground ready for the opening. The management lias decided to charge an entrance fee of 0 to all the overnight races, and while this may have a tendency to keep the fields tlown to smaller proportions, still It should result iu better racing, as it will In a measure tend to eliminate those whose chances of earning some share of the purse are slim. It will stop the promiscuous entering of bad horses, something that is sorely needed on this circuit. The horsemen here are anxiously awaiting the publication of the stakes that will be offered by tha Florida Racing Association at Jacksonville next winter. Every owner of prominence racing on this circuit contemplates shipping to Jacksonville, and the meeting at that place should equal that of any winter meeting ever given, either in California or Lou-I isiana. .
