THE KEENE TWO-YEAR-OLDS IN ENGLAND. The two-year-olds sent to England by James R. Keene have effected nothing of consequence in sucli little racing as they have done there. Yet, they were carefully selected, grandly-bred and closely related to distinguished racers on this side. Any American would reasonably have expected something of note from a brother to XIaskette and a halfrbrother to Commando,, yet they have done nothing so far. It Is true the Keene tWo-year-olds have done but little racing and It may be that they arc being trained slowly for fall racing In the big stakes at Newmarket and elsewhere. Xletaphor, the .brother to XIaskette. lias started but once. This was in the Hurstbournc Stakes at the Bibury Club meeting, July 7.. The race was won by Lawreny and Xletaphor finished sixth In a field of eight. Lyndin. the half-brother to Commando, has also started once. This was in the Salisbury XIaidcn Two-Ycar-Old Plato at the same meeting, in which he finished seventh of eighteen starters. Sunshine proving the winner. The bay filly. Coronal, by Voter Rosegarland, hns won two races of no importance, being what would bo called purses in this country, bur. at any rate, she has won. Infatuation, brown filly, by Kingston Runaway Girl, started in the Great Kingston Plate at Sandown Park July 10. but was unplaced. Suffragist, by Voter Noonday, ran unplaced in the Beck-hampton Plate at Newbury, Xlarch 31. and Black Satin, a black filly by Disguise Veva. had a similar experience in the Osmaston Plate at Derby. April 2. Up to latest advices Coronal is the only Keene two-year-old that has started more than once, so that unsatisfactory as their general showing has been, it would be overhasty to condemn them without the evidence of further racing. The fact that XIr. Whitneys long-waited with Broomstick Audience colt. Whiskbroom. scored a really important victory in the valuable Prince or Wales Plate at York Tuesday, has a bearing on the matter.
