"You all know that many difficulties hamper racing now. But the mistakes of the past we have endeavored to rectify, and we hope to avoid mistakes in the future. The present head of racing, Mr. Belmont, is earnestly striving to uphold the sport, giving generously of his time and money to this end. We should all he thankful for his support. Around the race course ftne may hear many rumors that tend to injure racing, hut when sifted thoroughly they are usually found to lie without any foundation. Every horseman at least should endeavor to avoid as far as possible any expression that might prove inimical to the sport that we all love anil enjoy. "We are not wholly out of the woods yet. though the pathway appears to be clear and unobstructed. But we cannot always feel sure. We want to one and all of us unite in the endeavor to keep racing up fo a high standard. With united effort we are Mire to succeed."
