IMPROVEMENTS AT DOWNS ABOUT FINISHED. Louisville. Ky., April S. With the opening of the New IiOiiisvilic Jockey Club spring meeting of 1111 less than five weeks away things have assumed a busy aspect at Churchill Downs. The paddock, which has been relocated, is now Hearing completion, and work on the improvements !eing made within the betting enclosure is about finished, while the space formerly utilized for the paddock has been laid down in sod, enhancing the beauty of the grounds surrounding the secretarys otlicc nnd jockey quarters. On the backstretcli more than half a mile of new panel fence has been built, and the straightening of the track by this improvement has added to its width at this point. The landscape gardener has begun his work of beautifying the grounds. The New Louisville Jockey Club management has experienced much difficulty in assigning stable room for applicants this spring. So many have applied for quarters that the stables at Churchill Downs have all been spoken for and a number of the stables at Douglas Park arc also already engaged. There aro sufficient stables at the two tracks to accommodate all who desire to come, but many of the horsemen heretofore quartered at Churchill Downs will be forced to be satisfied with quarters at Douglas Park on account of the great rush this year.
