DERBY TRIALS AT CHURCHILL DOWNS. Colston Works Mile and Quarter in 2:11, Pulled Up and Jack Dcnman Goes a Bit Slower. Louisville, Ky., Mav 9. There was much good work at the Churchill Downs and Douglas Park-tracks this morning, hut owing to the rolling of the course at the former place close to the inner rail, "dogs" were put up there and horses working at the Downs ran around these obstructions. This fact made the work the more creditable, especially in the case of the Derby candidate, Colston, which went the Derby distance of a mile and a quarter in 2:11 1, pulled up. The fractionate were: 241, 10?. 40, 1:02-, l:irii, 1:291. 1:44, 1:57. The colt did it easily and good judges considered the work as good as 2:08 under ordinary conditions. Colston had up about as much weight as he will carry in Saturdays race, 110 pounds. Colston pulled up in fresh condition and cooled out nicely. His trainer, Raleigh Colston, was pleased with the performance. The colt is now ready and is sure to start, rain or shine, with Eddie Taplin in the saddle. Another dangerous Derby contender developed to day at Douglas Park in Jack Dennian. He went a mile and a quarter in 2:1.1, witli the fractionate as follows: 12;, 241, 171, 40, 1:01, 1:171, 1:30;, 1:43, 1:571. It was announced ollieially tnat he would start in the Derby with W. Brannon up. Jack Dn-man improsed the work-watchers as being a colt with only a fair turn of speed, but unquestionably a good stayer. No Derby candidate lias worked around here this season that rated his trial better than this son of Ornament. C. K. Lyman has announced that Ramazan -will go to the post in. the Derby. He is endeavoring to secure the services of T. Rice for the occasion. Ramazan cantered a half mile this morning in 52. He looks good and is training nicely. Round the World, once more the Derby favorite, was slowly cantered on the inner track. She showed no ill effects from her sensational mile and a quarter Derby trial of yesterday. The fastest mile of the season at Douglas Park was scored by Ocean Bound, when she went the distance in 1:411. The fractionate were: 11. 211, 10?, 1:021, 1:151. 1:291. She worked the tirst part in brilliant fashion, but was quitting at the end. The work will do her good, as she looks well. Other work-outs at Churchill Downs: Alaniitos Half mile in 5.1, cantering. Mclntyre. The noted mare Cutter, owned by Charles Bills, has foaled a handsome bay colt by Oiseau at Valley Farm. She will bo re-mated with Oiscau. Edward Corrigan was at the Downs today inspecting his horses. Capt. W. II. Fenchler, a steward of the Jockey Club Juarez, is here to witness the running of the Derby.
