FREDERICK JOHNSON LEAVES FOR KENTUCKY New York, May 8. — Frederick Johnson, who. with Mr. Billings, owns the Derby candidate Omar Khayyam, has left for Louisville to see the running of the Kentucky Derby next Saturday. He received a letter from his trainer, Charles Patterson, that Omar Khayyam had worked satisfactorily for the race, but the intention was to give him a race in company on Tuesday at Lexington. "I have been ill for some weeks," said Mr. Johnson, before his departure, "but I really think if I could win that Derby it would make me completely well. I look for our horse to run a good race, but he »s such a slow beginner that he may be knocked all around in the early part of the running." In speaking of his most dangerous opponent. Mr. Johnson thought that Skeptic would lie a dangerous horse and that Mr. Ma com lie r held a big hand in the race with Star Master and North Star III. "Skeptic is a much improved horse over his two-year-old form, so I am led to believe." concluded Mr. Johnson, "and if he is, he will be a factor in the race. All considered, it is an open race and should be a thoroughbred contest of exceeding iu-terert."
