PETER CLINCH A THOROUGH HORSEMAN. Peter Clinch of St. John. N. B.. who has been appointed presiding judge at the race meetings at Blue Bonnets and Woodbine Park, is a thorough horseman and at one time was a well-known gentleman rider. He has always made his home in St. John and has officiated at the races before, but mostly at minor meetings. Mr. Clinch rode in races for gentlemen riders back in the "eighties" in the days of Foxhall Keene. Harry Harwood and Henry J. Morris, who is now secretary of the National Hunt Association. Mr. Clinch at one time owned a number of thoroughbreds and for several years was identified with show horses, having a good string of them. He also purchased the famous stallion Garry Herrmann for the New Brunswick government and later oa sold him back to a syndicate in the United States. It is likely that Mr. Clinch will be offered the position of presiding judge on the majority of tin-Canadian Racing Associations tracks this season and may be one of the stewards at the spring meeting at Dorval. The last race ridden by Mr. Clinch was on the horse Masterman, owned by the late John Boden, and trained by his brother Jim, who is now training the Raymond string. The race was run at Belmont Park. — Montreal Gazette.
