RAINY DAY AT AQUEDUCT BAYBERRY CANDLE RUNS WELL IN THE GOING AND WINS THE MAIN RACE EASILY. Pan Zareta Asserts Herself and Takes the Race for Fillies and Mares — A Leaky Grandstand Roof Brings Discomfort and Wet Garments. New York. June 20. — Favored by the sloppy going. J. YV. Mays consistent mare Bayberry Candle, ■cored a cantering victory in the Midwood, an overnight handicap, at one mile and a sixteenth, which featured an off days racing at the Aqueduct cour-o. This performance marked her sixth effort on the Long Island tracks this year and on only one oeeasion has she bean out of the money. There was little to the race but Bayberry Candle. She began fast and quickly shaking off all opponents, raced Under restraint off by herself for the remainder of the journey. Duettiste. after racing in close pursuit in the early running, made a challenge at the head of the stretch, but tired and quit badly in the dash down the long straightaway. It was Flit-tergold, which has always shown a dislike for anything resembling mud. which came from behind to t.ike second place, A driving rainfall, which came before the first race, rendered the track muddy and. while it stopped raining after the third race, a shower continual in tin- grandstand for the remainder of the afternoon. This was caused by a leaky roof on the grandstand, which affords slight protection and caused much discomfort to the patrons of the sport. While there was no stake race as a feature, there were a number of overnight races programmed, which brought out fields of excellent class and good contests resulted. The six and a half fur-lings dash for fillies and mares, attracted more than ordinary attention and fell to E. T. Coltons Pan Zareta after a hard drive. The stewards of the Jockey Club have recommended a resolution to the effect that, during the suspension of a jockey, his badge be taken up and he be refused admission to the course, during the hours of racing. A. K. Macorubers Liberty Loan, having shown a satisfactory mile trial for the Canadian Derby, will lie shipped to the Fort Erie track tomorrow, under the care of M. Bernard. As a companion for the trip he will have the two-year-old Sirocco.
