LAURELS BRIGHT RACING PROSPECTS Leading Stables and Many of the Best Horses of the Day Assure High Class Sport Laurel, Md September 8. One hundred nnd forty .representative horsemen of the United States and Canada have made 1,321 nominations for twenty-two stakes which closed on August 25, that are to be decided during the October meeting of the Maryland State Fair which will begin at Laurel Park on October 1, to continue through the montli The average number of nominations to the race is 02 which is ten better than the average of last year for 19 stakes. The number of nominators is far ahead of any previous Laurel record. AVithout exception the horses that will gather here between this and October 1, will be campaigners, seasoned by racing through the summer nnd early autumn in Canada and Kentucky, about New York and at Havre de Grace. The meeting therefore bids fair to furnish to the people of Baltimore,- AVashington and Philadelphia the mos,t brilliant sport that will have been seen in these parts.; The most liberal of the nominators are such well known sportsmen ns James Butler, August Belmont. Nearly every three-year-old of good class that has appeared on American and Canadian tracks is named for the races for three-year-olds and for three-ear-olds and over. Among the most prominent of these are Omar Khayyam, winner of the Kentucky and Brooklyn Derbys,- the Kenner and Traverse stakes and the Saratofa Cup, and his 0,000 stable mato AVesty Ilogan; Sunbonnet. winner of the Kentucky Oaks and the Alabama Stakes; Liberty Loan, winner of the Latonia Derby; Iron Cross II., winner of the Hamilton Derby; Rickety, winner of the Empire City Derby; Meteorite, Cam-fire, Ticket, Naturalist King Herod. Bally, winner of the Jerome Handicap; AAistful, Tom Mc-Taggart, Hyannis, Ballad, Bondage, Manokin, Ed Roche, Milkman, Manister Toi, Bella Desmond, Julialeon, Nebraska, Koh-i-Noor. The crack two-year-olds that will compete in the juvenile specials with each other and in the sundry races over considerable distances of ground, in which they will have to meet horses of mature years are Papp. Ultima Thule, AAar Cloud. Heredity, Thistle, Memories II., Jack Hare Jr., Top Coat, Dawn Star, Nutcracker, Rnhu, Snbahdar, Dr. Johnson, Kashmir, Red Sox, Cum Sail, Charlie Leydecker, Night Wind, The Spinner, Recount, Bolster, Green Gold, AAhippoorwill, Rose dOr, So Long Letty and Aztec. Roamer, holder of the Laurel record for one mile nnd an eighth and winner this year of the Saratoga Handicap, is one of the noted campaigners of the best class named for the longer distance races. Another nomination in these races of conspicuous merit is Old Rosebud, the best handicap horse of the year, perhaps. Still others are Spur, winner of the Empire City Handicap; St Isidore, Capra, High Noon, Clematis II., Crimper, Borrow, holder of the new American record for one mile and an eighth; Top o th Morning, Bringhurst, Xylon, Ed Cudiiiee, Paddy Whack, Startling, AAhimsy, Daddys Choice, Benevolent, Hank ODay, George Smith, the Kentucky Derby winner of last year; Gex, AAiseman, Chiclet, King Neptune, Fountain Fay, Flittergold and Leochares. That the steeplechasing will be high-class throughout the meeting, is guaranteed by the eligibility for the several cross country stakes of such accomplished fencers as Samuel D. Riddles Martian, AA. R. Coes Bet, Mortemer L. Schiffs Northwind and Bill Dulley, Edward B. McLeans Sun Star, Edward M. Wolds St. Charlcote, Captain Parrs Ballybay, Captain Parr, Robert Oliver.
