KEENE SHARES IN FUTURITY HONORS Was the Breeder of the Crack Colt and is Quite Proud of tho Fact. Lexington, Ky., September S. There was no happier nor more warmly congratulated man in Lexington this afternoon, than was J. O. Keene when he appeared in Main street, shortly after the receipt of the news that Papp had won the Futurity at Belmont Park. Jack Keene bred Papp and in that he accomplished something that scores of turfmen and breeders have been hoping for years to do, it is a great thing to have bred the winner of the Futurity. Papp is by Peter Quince Pliebe G. by Mazagan Amy J.. Pliebe G. was bred by Hon. Johnson N. Camden, for whom Jack Keene saddled three winners of tho Breeders Futurity at the Lexington track and is a half sister to Luke, the last of the trio with which the chairman of the State Racing Commission won the co-efed local prize, for which Papp now will bo a pronounced favorite on September 22, unless It should be that local folks get their minds more strongly set upon the chances of Aiva America. Senator Camden sent to the sale at Durlands in June a chestnut colt by Peter Quince Amy J, and Tom AAelsh got him for Joseph E. AAidener for . Jack Keene did not have a yearling from Pliebe G. She slipped her foal to Peep ODay and this year missed to Luke McLuke. However, she is in foal to that horse now, as is her daughter. Purple Cross-, by Order. Purple Cross and Papp are her only produce. Purple Cross was never raced, but Pliebe G. was a winner of three races as a two-year-old. Congressman George AV. Loft paid ,700 for Papp as a jearling, buying him at auction and lie certainly secured a bargain. "It makes me feel good to have bred the winner of tlie Futurity within five years after my determination to become a breeder," said Mr. Keene. "Perhaps it is more than I am entitled to, but Im ,mighty proud of it just the same." It is safe to say that every negro on Keeneland Farm got an extra piece in his pay envelope this evening.
