REM0UNT-ASS0CIATI0N HOLDS MEETING SARATOGA. N. Y., August 9. Many members of the National Remount Association and others interested iii the thoroughbred horse held a meeting Saturday night in the United States Hotel, and Colonels C. L. Scott and Staple? Koch told some pertinent truths in connection with the present supply of cavalry horse material and relation which racing hears on the future efficiency of the mounted service of this country. The one hundred thousand horses of the proper type needed would not be available without racing, stated Col. Koch, and he also made the prediction that if racing tests were interfered with there would be no cav-jilry mounts available in twenty years. Mr. E. F. Whitney, a member of The Jockey Club, who was present at the meeting, said: "That statement should be posted at every crossroads throughout the country as a matter of education, not only for the breeders of the nation, but for the enlightenment of all those who do not understand that racing is a matter of national defense." The Remount Association is making an effort to add ninety more stallions to the sixty already owned by the government. Messrs. F. K. Sturgis, Matt J. Winn and Frank J. Bryan were appointed a committee to assist in procuring the horses required.
